Why Marvel’s Wolverine can’t necessarily have a “comic-true” protagonist

Highlights

  • Wolverine’s size in Marvel’s Wolverine will apparently match Hugh Jackman’s portrayal and differ from the character’s stature in the comics.
  • Fans had hoped for a smaller Wolverine, but leaks suggest that Insomniac’s game will feature a tall and slender version of the hero.
  • Changing Wolverine’s size to a different skin to increase comic accuracy seems unlikely, as it would impact combat as enemy character models would be larger, so Logan will likely remain large in any skin.

After several successful appearances with Spider-Man, Insomniac will now turn its attention to another outstanding comic book hero. Marvel’s Wolverine. Official information about the game is limited, although there are many leaks and rumors. Through these leaks, it is clear that an aspect of the title hero in Marvel’s Wolverine will be more similar to the movies than the comics: its size.

For the general audience, Wolverine will forever be represented by Hugh Jackman. Jackman’s interpretation may have differed from the original at times, but his role as the character lasted for more than twenty years and has produced many fond memories over time. Wolverine’s stature is a key feature of the character that was never properly portrayed on film, and it seems that this trend of increasing Logan’s size is not going away. Marvel’s Wolverine.

Marvel’s Wolverine must reflect an underrated part of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games

Marvel’s Wolverine will undoubtedly be action-packed, but Insomniac should also give the player the opportunity to get to know Logan a little better.

Marvel’s Wolverine won’t exactly be a little king

Wolverine’s comic appearance was misrepresented for a long time

According to Marvel’s own official materials, Wolverine stands about 5’3″ tall in the comics. Hugh Jackman, on the other hand, stands 6’2″, nearly a foot taller than the hero he portrays. While a character’s height is usually a negligible aspect of their character, Wolverine’s stature is important enough to get comic fans talking.

This inaccuracy in size was most relevant when Jackman was first cast, but has become much less important since then. However, when Jackman seemingly retired the character in LoganMany hoped that this issue would be resolved in future versions of the figure. X-Men ’97 delivered a faithful Wolverine design that further increased fan expectations.

Deadpool and Wolverine even contains a variant that pokes fun at the fan outcry for a short Wolverine, with Hugh Jackman reprising his role here as well. However, since there is no new cast in sight, Marvel’s Wolverine is likely the next reinterpretation of the character. Although there is unfortunately only one official image of the title hero at the moment, it is not difficult to see which direction Insomniac is heading.

Wolverine’s fate may already be sealed

The teaser trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine wasn’t very revealing, with a total running time of less than a minute. No further official details have been released since then, which would normally leave room for speculation. However, the first reveal has already shown fans everything they need to see.

Logan is depicted out of costume, sitting in a bar after a brutal brawl. A man stumbles to his feet and pulls out a knife. He is apparently the last survivor of the bar brawl. Before the attacker can even take a few steps, Logan’s adamantium claws emerge from his fist, revealing to the audience that this is Wolverine, just before the title drops.

Insomniac seems to be intentionally keeping many details about the game secret, especially after Marvel’s Wolverine Unfortunately, it leaked in December last year. The announcement trailer doesn’t show Logan’s face or a Wolverine costume based on the comics. However, you don’t need to see a character’s face to determine their size.

Insomniac’s approach to Marvel’s Wolverine might be the best

Marvel’s Wolverine hasn’t shown Logan in full yet, but the trailer shows enough of his torso and legs to make the intent very clear. While Wolverine is typically short and stocky in the comics, he appears to be tall and lean in the upcoming Insomniac title. While there are technically many ways to correct this, there are many more reasons why Insomniac is unlikely to take this approach.

According to leaked gameplay footage from Marvel’s Wolverine, it looks like Logan is actually going to be pretty big.

Both games from Insomniac in Marvel’s Spider-Man Costumes are a big attraction in the series. Marvel’s Wolverine will most likely take this approach as well, and the developers could incorporate a more comic-like look in one of these costumes. However, shrinking Logan’s character model would be much more difficult than simply swapping out his outfit. This is because it would completely change the dynamic of combat, which is guaranteed to be a major focus of the game.

While fans can hope for an alternate costume, shrinking Logan would make all the other characters appear much larger, including the enemies that players must dismember. Marvel’s Wolverine appears to be using a design for the character that is more similar to his portrayal in the film than a comic book appearance. It seems that the great Wolverine is officially here to stay, at least for now.
