Witness to accident that threw two toddlers onto a Texas highway thought they were dead

A man who filmed the aftermath of a serious traffic accident on a US highway in which two young children were thrown onto the roadway said he feared they were dead.

The toddlers were traveling in a Jeep driven by their father on Sunday when the vehicle collided with another vehicle, rolled over several times and the toddlers were thrown through the air.

The children were photographed stranded in the middle of the highway on the outskirts of Houston, Texas, wearing only diapers, before witnesses rushed to help.

Eyewitness Victor Cordova was on his way home at the time and recorded the moments after the crash.

He thought the children were dead or might have been hit by another car.

“I saw them getting up, moving, trying to get up. I felt a little better … but I knew there were still some injured,” he said.

An investigation revealed that none of the children were in a child seat at the time of the accident.

“They were just sitting in the back of the vehicle and weren’t buckled up anywhere,” said Deputy Sheriff Thomas Gilliland.

Cordova, himself a father, shared the video on Facebook, where it has been viewed over 13 million times.

He hopes this will remind parents to properly secure their children in the car.

“Parents and everyone else need to be alert, even if it’s just a short distance. Make sure your children are properly restrained,” Cordova said.

It was previously reported that both children were in stable condition in hospital.

Her 25-year-old father was treated for minor injuries and released.

The police investigation is ongoing.
