Work order issued for underground parking at Flora Fountain | Mumbai News

A work order was issued for a Underground car park on the traffic island opposite the Apsara Pen Shop in Flora Fountain (Hutatma Chowk) is being built at a cost of about 70 crore rupees.

After the work is completed, the contractor will also be required to operate and maintain the system for five years from the date of project completion. The parking garage will also be subject to a defect liability period of 60 months after the completion of construction..
According to BMC, the entire system is fully automated and can operate without human intervention. Chip card and robot applications.
“The work order has been issued and the contractor has to complete the work within 24 months (excluding monsoon). Various permits have to be obtained, including from the fire department, building permits and even Monument protection approvals keeping in mind the heritage conservation areas. Besides, the contractor will also have to carry out aspects like soil survey etc. The current on-street parking will be closed once we start excavation work on the site. The multi-level parking will be able to accommodate about four times the number of cars that are currently in the area,” said a BMC official.
There were some delays in the project as the BMC had already floated the tenders last year. However, BMC officials attribute the delay to various reasons including negotiations, changes in tender conditions and the election code.
Meanwhile, the BMC is also undertaking a multi-storey parking project near the BMC Engineering Hub building on Dr. E. Moses Road in Worli. The proposed parking lot will have a capacity of around 640 cars.
