Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez inflicted physical and financial damage on the Tampa Bay Rays and their stadium on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old All-Star hit a ball so hard that it crashed into the big screen at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, causing a glitch and failure of the giant screen, according to multiple reports.
The Astros won 3-2 against the Rays, and Alvarez did not score a hit in the game.

Alvarez had already caused similar damage to his team’s big screen at Minute Maid Park in Houston in 2019.
At 6’5″ and 235 pounds, Alvarez has been one of the most feared hitters in baseball since 2019. Over the past four seasons, Alvarez has hit 126 home runs, the third-most in the American League during that span. He is a career slugger with a .298 OPS, a .978 OPS, and a 22.2 WAR.

This year, he has a .308 batting average with 25 home runs, 64 RBIs, a .957 OPS and a 3.9 WAR in 113 games. According to Baseball Savant, he is in the 97th percentile in average bat velocity and the 95th percentile in average exit velocity in the majors in 2024.
